“I Would Go All In…” Danny Murphy Backs Liverpool To Make Bold Swoop For West Ham And Leeds Stars

Anfield Stadium

Ex-Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy believes his former club should sign either Declan Rice or Kalvin Phillips this summer.

The talkSPORT pundit thinks the Reds should splash the cash in order to bring in a Premier League proven player who can reinvigorate the team’s midfield:

“I think I would go all-in for Rice or Phillips. English, hungry, someone you know is going to be around for a long time, gets in, can come in, hits the ground running.”

Rice has been linked with a move away from West Ham over the past year, but Chelsea and Manchester United are said to be the England international’s two main suitors. His £150m valuation would undoubtedly scare off Liverpool and every other club, though.

Phillips is, however, expected to be available for transfer. Negotiations over a new contract have stalled and the midfielder has just two years remaining on his current deal. Manchester City are thought to be the frontrunners for the 26-year-old’s signature, with Arsenal, United and even West Ham also reportedly keen.

The Reds do have some issues in midfield. Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have just one year left on their contracts, while Jordan Henderson and James Milner are in their 30s, but neither Rice nor Phillips are likely to be targets for the Reds.
