Ian Wright Issues Damning Liverpool Verdict As He Predicts Who Will Finish Fourth

Arsenal legend Ian Wright says Liverpool’s erratic form means he “can’t trust” the Reds to put a run together that could see them finish in the top four.

Tottenham are currently sitting in fourth, with Newcastle in fifth, and Wright believes Spurs are the favourites to secure Champions League qualification:

“I think Tottenham are going to be okay simply because they have got Harry Kane. He’s going to score goals. You look at Newcastle. They are missing chances. Yes, they scored a couple (against Wolves) and it was good for them, but they will have to do that with their two games in a hand. They have to score goals. I can’t see Tottenham not scoring goals.”

“You can’t trust them. You can’t trust Liverpool. At the moment, whoever I am, playing against Liverpool, then I would have a go. What it comes down to is that you have Harry Kane. For as long you have Harry Kane and you can create chances, then he is probably going to score them. This is why I will fancy Tottenham to make the top four, regardless of how they play.”

Wright’s remarks hit the nail on the head where Liverpool are concerned. Jurgen Klopp’s side are too inconsistent at this moment in time to be genuine top-four contenders.

You can’t win 7-0 against Manchester United and then follow that up with an abject 1-0 defeat to Bournemouth and expect to be taken seriously.

The Cherries didn’t exactly have to perform well to get the three points at the weekend and you can’t forget that the same team lost 9-0 at Anfield back in August.

It’s hard to make heads or tails of Liverpool’s recent displays, and if they are to finish in the Champions League places, they will have to improve massively.
