A nice problem that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will have next campaign will be who he chooses to partner Virgil van Dijk.
Joe Gomez started the season very well before his leg break while Joel Matip was imperious as the season reached its climax.
Fans on Twitter have been having their say over who Klopp should favour:
Gomez if he can stay fit

Gomez, obviously. For the next decade

Whoever shows up for pre season games and wants it more
Will be a very big test

Matip’s to lose now , second half of the season he was excellent.

We will need both over the year so not worried about talent but am worried about health
— Tim The Enchanter (@EnchanterTim_) 18 June 2019
I’m glad I don’t have to make that decision

Matip. Players should be given starts on merit, not reputation. Matip was excellent this past season and hardly put a foot wrong. I rate Gomez very highly, but Matip ended last season on a high and has momentum, so he deserves to start against Norwich. At least for now.

Joel Matip. Joe Gomez will work his way back into the team eventually but Matip has earned his right to be our #1 RCB

Good case here for a certain amount of rotation to keep both players on top form!

It seems Gomez is the favoured choice among the majority of Liverpool fans, and it is not surprising considering the promise he possesses.
Just 22 years of age, the centre-back could be a key player at the heart of the Reds’ defence for the next decade.
Gomez’s talent is likely the main reason why the Merseysiders haven’t been focused on acquiring another talented defender in Matthijs de Ligt this summer.
The England international does have a poor injury record, though, which does concern some supporters and it remains to be seen if he can stay fit for an extended period.
