“Immensely Impressed” Keown Praises England U21 Defender Who Has Been Linked With Liverpool Switch

Former Arsenal star Martin Keown says he is a big fan of Bournemouth defender Lloyd Kelly. The 21-year-old was a target for Liverpool before he made the £13m switch to the Cherries last summer.

However, the South Coast side’s relegation to the Championship could mean that the England Under 21 international is available once again and Keown thinks he could be worth snapping up:

“Lloyd Kelly has immensely impressed me in the few games that he has played. He came in from Bristol City. I know that they paid £13 million for him.”

“I saw him play for the England Under-21s earlier in the season, and I thought, ‘I need to keep an eye on him’. He is similar to Tyrone Mings, but actually he seems more mature.”

The Reds certainly need another left-back, as well as a centre-half, and Kelly can fill in both positions. With the player having massive potential, he would also fit into the club’s recruitment strategy.

The centre-back did struggle somewhat in his first season in the Premier League, making just eight appearances due to injury, but he did establish himself in the side following the restart.

Kelly was part of a defence that conceded 16 goals in eight games as Bournemouth were relegated so it is up for debate whether he would be a worthwhile signing.
