‘Incredibly Hard To Secure’ Melissa Reddy Reveals Liverpool Have All But Ended Pursuit Of 40M Rated Defender

Liverpool are highly unlikely to make a move for Brighton centre-back Ben White in the near future, according to the Independent‘s Melissa Reddy.

The journalist, who has reliable inside knowledge of the Reds, says the Premier League champions were very interested in 23-year-old but they have come to realise that any bid for the player would likely end in failure:

“Ben White, who has been admired for a while, would be incredibly hard to secure now. The club’s thinking has been no move is better than the wrong move, especially if you can get the right one done in due course.”

Reports suggest that Brighton would demand in excess of £40m for White and, with the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United having also been linked with the defender, the asking price is unlikely to go down anytime soon.

With that being the case, you would have thought Liverpool would be moving on to other targets but, as things stand, it appears the Reds are not expected to make a bid to sign a new centre-half before the January transfer window closes.

The likes of Lille’s Sven Botman and Schalke’s Ozan Kabak have reportedly been scouted but it seems clear, at the moment at least, that the Merseyside club will look to wait until the summer.
