The Dutchman has been integral to the Merseyside club’s recent success, but fans on Twitter are not so sure that the 38-year-old would be the right man to take over at Anfield:

It is not surprising that many supporters would be resistant to the appointment of Lijnders, especially due to the fact that club legend Steven Gerrard is doing so well at Rangers.
The Light Blues are closing in on their first title in a decade, having not lost a single league game so far. There are still, however, question marks over whether Gerrard is ready to take the Liverpool job.
The same could be said of Lijnders, though. His only experience in management came at Dutch second division side NEC Nijmegen in 2018 but he was sacked within five months after failing to gain promotion.
