Ex-Liverpool defender Glen Johnson expects Manchester City to pip his former club to the title once again this season.
Speaking to the Betway Insider blog ahead of the new campaign kicking off, Johnson says the Reds are going to have a difficult time displacing Pep Guardiola’s side at the top of the table:
“It pains me to say it. [City have] a world-class manager, world class signings, world class squad. I think it is going to be up to Liverpool to bridge the gap.”
Johnson doesn’t believe that the likes of Chelsea or Tottenham will have any say in the title battle, with it likely to be another two-horse race.
Whether things will be as straightforward as the former England international believes, we shall have to wait and see. If the Community Shield is anything to go by, City do have some work to do when it comes to integrating Erling Haaland into their system.
Selling both Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus means they have also lost some depth in wide areas. Saying that, though, the fact they have won four of the last five league titles means they cannot be underestimated.
