“It Was A Possibility” Thiago Confirms That Liverpool Wasn’t His Only Option In The Summer

Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara has revealed he did have the opportunity to move back to Spain before deciding on a switch to Anfield.

The likes of Barcelona, Manchester United and Arsenal were mentioned as potential alternative destinations before his move to the Reds was confirmed back in September, and although he said returning to La Liga was an option, he wanted to experience the Premier League instead:

“It was a possibility, but at the end of the day, I felt that if I left Bayern it had to be to experience the Premier League, a really competitive league. When I got the call from the coach and the club, it was a really easy decision to make. It was a tough decision to leave Bayern, though. In the end, it happened and I’m really happy.”

Thiago’s move to Liverpool hasn’t gone as smoothly as many would have hoped. A serious injury in the Merseyside derby back in October kept him out for a couple of months, and he has struggled to recapture his best form since then.

The Spaniard does tend to dive into tackles and his lack of pace has been exposed when playing in the holding midfield role, so the 29-year-old may need more time to adapt to life in English football.

It is hoped that by the start of next season Thiago will have found his feet, and it will help that he should be playing in a more settled team by then.
