The Athletic journalist James Pearce says it’s “difficult to see” Liverpool matching Chelsea’s £70m asking price for Mason Mount.
A number of teams, including Manchester City, Manchester United and Newcastle have also been linked with the England international, but the Reds are seen as the likeliest to make a bid for the player. Pearce has, though, cast doubt on whether Jurgen Klopp’s side would shell out so much on Mount, considering he is closing in on the final year of his contract:
Interesting piece on Mason Mount’s future. #LFC definitely interested – ticks a lot of boxes in terms of his age, profile, skillset, home grown etc.
Chelsea want £70m but difficult to see anyone paying that for a player down to final year of his contract.https://t.co/SJ0XoROiMS

You do feel that £50m to £60m would be a fairer valuation for Mount. Gabriel Jesus, who is a similar age, was signed by Arsenal for £45m from Manchester City last summer, so that should be the barometer that Liverpool use if they do enter negotiations.
Currently, Mount is still focused on remaining at Stamford Bridge, with a further round of talks about extending his current deal expected to take place at the end of the season. However, at this moment in time, there is no agreement on salary, bonuses or the length of the new contract.
Ahead of Liverpool’s match against Manchester City this weekend, why not give the Single Game Survivor from National World Gaming a go and have a chance of winning a share of a cash prize pot?
You can make predictions about the match (e.g who scores first, who commits five fouls first etc) and if you guess correctly, you survive.
The unique twist? You get two lives to play with so if you get one of your predictions wrong, you still have an opportunity to win a share of the money.
Even if you make it just to half-time with one life remaining, you will receive some cash and if you make it all the way to full-time, you get to share the prize pot with your fellow participants.
It’s a really great way to test your football knowledge against other supporters, then watch in real-time to discover if your predictions are correct, and perhaps even win yourself some money in the process!
If you are interested in registering for the National World Gaming Single Game Survivor, you can do so here.
