John Barnes Predicts Where Liverpool Will Finish As He Names His Favourites For The Top Four

Liverpool legend John Barnes says he expects his former club to finish second behind Manchester City this season.

The Reds have fallen 11 points behind the reigning champions and, while he still thinks they are more likely than Chelsea to win the league, he feels City have everything going their way to clinch the title:

“It’s going to be very difficult for either of them [Liverpool or Chelsea] to catch Man City now. I still make Liverpool second favourites and Chelsea third favourites. Football is a funny old game but City seem to be playing with a lot of resilience. Even when they don’t play well – as we saw against Arsenal – they win.”

Barnes did also address who he believes will finish fourth. The former winger claims that Manchester United are not playing well enough to qualify for the Champions League and, while he rates West Ham, he believes that either Arsenal or Spurs are the likeliest to get the final spot:

“United’s players aren’t performing. West Ham have got a bit of consistency but I would make Arsenal or Tottenham favourites to finish fourth.”

As things stand, it is City’s title to lose. Even if Liverpool win their game in hand against Leeds, an eight-point gap, even at this stage of the season, is a huge one to close, especially as City have been so consistent.

11 league wins in a row makes them look unbeatable at the moment but, as Barnes points out, they didn’t play well against Arsenal. If they do slip up in upcoming games, hopes of a title challenge could yet be rekindled.
