Ex-Liverpool Jose Enrique has questioned why his former club opted to sign Cody Gakpo ahead of Leandro Trossard.
Arsenal paid just £27m to secure the services of Trossard from Brighton, while Gakpo cost almost double, and Enrique feels the Gunners got the much better end of the deal:
You can call me whatever you want but I’m watching arsenal and something that I say it before I even say it more now. That we sign gakpo instead of trossard for half of the price I don’t understand. Really like trossard

Gakpo has really struggled since arriving from PSV Eindhoven earlier this month, having not scored or provided an assist in four games so far for the Reds.
The Dutchman did impress at the World Cup but adapting to a new league can be difficult. In contrast, Trossard (who has spent three and a half years in England) has hit the ground running at Arsenal.
In terms of why Liverpool decided to pursue Gakpo instead, it’s likely down to age. The winger is five years younger than Trossard and the Reds’ recruitment team must believe he has a higher ceiling than his Belgian counterpart. Whether that will prove to be the case, only time will tell.
