Journalist Claims Klopp And FSG Are At Loggerheads Over Potential £60m Transfer

Sunday Times and Daily Record reporter Duncan Castles has suggested that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp would be interested in signing Wolves striker Raul Jimenez.

However, speaking on the Transfer Window podcast, Castles says there are doubts over whether the Reds’ owners, FSG, would be prepared to sanction a move for the Mexican international:

“I’m not sure whether Fenway Sports Group are prepared to back Klopp in the manner which would be required financially to get Jimenez from Wolves.”

“While there is an interest, an understandable interest, it will be an interesting test of how much support FSG are prepared to give Klopp going into this next season to defend that Premier League title.”

It would be very surprising if Jimenez was a key target for Klopp. At 29 years of age, the forward isn’t exactly young and he is older than all three of Liverpool’s current front three.

If he were to be brought in as some sort of backup, his price tag would certainly make any deal difficult, with it being claimed that Wolves would demand between £60m and £70m.

Reports in Portugal have been suggesting Jimenez was closing in on a move to Manchester United but those claims turned out to be false. It’s unlikely there is any substance to Liverpool’s interest either.
