Liverpool remain interested in signing Chelsea attacking midfielder Mason Mount, according to journalist Simon Phillips.
Reports last month claimed that the Reds are monitoring the England international’s contract situation and Phillips says Jurgen Klopp’s side are still tracking the player:
“There are a lot of English clubs watching this situation. Liverpool, I know to be one of them. They’re keeping an eye on it. If it’s not going to be signed, they’re going to be there waiting.”
Mount is currently earning £80,000 a week with the Blues but, with his current deal expiring at the end of next season, he is set for a lucrative extension.
However, despite being in negotiations for a number of months, no agreement has been reached. More talks are scheduled for the New Year but, if no common ground can be found, a shock departure from Stamford Bridge could be on the cards.
Mount would certainly be an outstanding addition if Liverpool could pull off such a transfer but you do suspect that his agent may be using the Merseysiders as a way to get his client a sizeable wage rise. It is believed that the midfielder could be demanding as much as £300,000 a week to sign on the dotted line.
