Journalist Reveals Klopp’s Lieutenant Wants Liverpool To Snap Up 43.6M Rated Eredivisie Ace

Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders is keen for the Reds to sign PSV Eindhoven forward Cody Gakpo, according to Dutch reporter Hans Kraay Jnr.

Gakpo has been heavily linked with the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal in recent months, but Kraay claims Lijnders also wants the Reds to enter the battle for the €50m (£43.6m) rated Netherlands international:

“Lijnders has said: ‘Gakpo is our missing link’. He is taken very seriously at Liverpool and he is one of the few people Klopp listens to.”

While there is no doubt that Gakpo has been in very good form this campaign (he has scored 13 goals and provided 17 assists), it’s difficult to see where he would fit into the Reds’ starting eleven.

Almost all of the 23-year-old’s game time this season has been as a left-winger, which is not exactly a position that Liverpool are short of options in.

Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota both favour playing on that side of the pitch and, while the two players are currently out injured, they are expected to return to fitness after the World Cup.
