Jurgen Klopp blieben Xherdan Shaqiri has already proven his Liverpool doubters wrong

Jurgen Klopp believes summer signing Xherdan Shaqiri has already proven his doubters wrong after a fine start to life at Anfield.

Shaqiri joined Liverpool in a £13 million from relegated Stoke City earlier the summer, and has hit the ground running for his new club.

The Swiss international impressed for the Reds in pre-season – the highlight being a phenomenal over-head kick during a 4-1 victory over Manchester United – and made his Premier League debut as a substitute in the 4-0 win over West Ham on the opening weekend of the season.

The 26-year-old was met with a fair amount of skepticism following his move to merseyside, with their being suggestions he would not be able to cut it in such a competitive side field with big money signings.

But Klopp believes the former Bayern Munich and Inter Milan star has already proven such doubters wrong, and shown that a price tag can mean very little in a currently over-inflated transfer market.

“I don’t think German football culture would tolerate transfers of 150 million Euros. They love nothing more than a free transfer,” the boss told SPORT1.

“The view in England is different. If a player costs nothing there is a suspicion he must be useless.

“For example, there was a lot of questioning (in England) around our interest in Xherdan Shaqiri.

“We paid £13million for him after he got relegated with Stoke. But he’s a fantastic player and now everyone at the club loves him. In comparison to Germany, it’s really different.”
