Jurgen Klopp reveals multiple injury blow for Liverpool ahead of West Ham clash

Jurgen Klopp has revealed he could be without as many as five of his regular players this weekend for Liverpool’s Premier League opener against West Ham.

The Reds welcome Manuel Pellegrini’s side to Anfield on Sunday as they look to kick on from a promising last campaign.

Jurgen Klopp’s men finished fourth in the Premier League last term and reached the Champions League final, however will be hoping for one step further this time around after a busy summer in the transfer market in which they spent over £160 million on talent.

However Klopp has stated he could be without one of them, £40 million man Fabinho, this weekend after the Brazilian fell down with illness during the week.

“The [Fabinho’s] scan was clear. It was only a check-up and the scan was clear, but he felt ill when he came back so we sent him home again,” Klopp said at his press conference on Friday.

“Obviously he was not feeling really well so we sent him home again and I didn’t see him so far and I didn’t ask anybody, so we will see.”

However the former AS Monaco star isn’t the only one the German boss will have to make do without against the Hammers.

Dejan Lovren and Joe Gomez are both out, while a host of the his English stars who returned  to training late following the World Cup, may also have to miss out due to not being match fit.

“We will see about the England boys and Dejan [Lovren]. They are all in different shape. Trent [Alexander-Arnold] has had longer, which is good,” he said.

“[Jordan] Henderson is full of power but hasn’t been back long. It’s Hendo though, you always think about him. Dejan is unavailable for the weekend.”

Liverpool are also expected to be without defensive duo Ragnar Klavan and Joel Matip, however all of Naby Keita, Xherdan Shaqiri and Alisson could make their competitive debuts for the Reds.
