The fallout between Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi and the Catalan club’s board has sparked some wild speculation regarding the Argentinan legend’s future.
Reports in the Italian media suggest there are six teams who would be keen on signing the 32-year-old if he ever left the Camp Nou. Liverpool are one of the clubs, alongside, Manchester City, Manchester United, AC Milan, Inter Milan and Juventus.
Needless to say, even the slight hint of the Reds being interested has led to some very excitable responses on Twitter:
Just needs to lower his wage demands by half a billion

won’t happen but just imagine the scenes???

Yeah he’d have to accept a wage of almost 1/10 of what he’s currently on

I think last season's loss to Liverpool is a motivation for the link

Shaqiri out, Messi in

I'd say Sadio would actively fight him for the 10 shirt…….

I'll take being linked to Messi rumorus as another sign of Klopp restoring our greatness. Would have never happened in 2013.

It is the winter break so it is not surprising that these type of stories gain extra momentum, but it would be a huge shock if Messi ever left Barca.
The Argentine star is having some issues with the club’s hierarchy at the moment, but he is likely trying to put pressure on those in charge to give in to his contract demands. A move to Anfield would also be unrealistic financially with Liverpool unlikely to be able to meet his wage expectations.
