Klopp Delivers Hint As To Whether He Will Start Thiago Against Arsenal

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has not ruled out starting Thiago Alcantara against Arsenal. The Reds boss generally likes to ease new signings into the setup at Anfield, but when asked whether the midfielder could be in the starting eleven on Monday night at his pre-match press conference, Klopp replied:

“We will see. We have a few days to train and some boys have to recover from last night so we will see how we set up against Arsenal. I have an idea, but why should I make a decision today when we have until Monday? He is in contention for sure. Let’s see.”

Thiago was extremely impressive after coming on in the second half against Chelsea last weekend, despite not having trained with his new teammates. The Spaniard wasn’t included in the squad for the 7-2 win against Lincoln City last night, along with a number of other first-team players, which suggests he will have a role to play versus the Gunners.

Joe Gomez is back in training so his inclusion would allow Fabinho to move back into midfield. That would give Klopp the option of leaving the summer signing on the bench if he wanted to, but his ability to dictate play from deep could prove useful against Arsenal, who have played counter-attacking football in their last two meetings against the Reds.
