Klopp Full Of Praise For Liverpool Ace After Goalscoring Drought Comes To An End

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has praised the quality and work rate of Roberto Firmino after the Brazilian ended his Premier League goal drought against Watford on Saturday.

The 27-year-old hadn’t scored a goal in the league since the 2-1 win over Tottenham in September, but he sealed victory for the Reds with a point-blank header in the 3-0 win at Vicarage Road.

Firmino has been playing in a deeper role this campaign, leading to fewer goalscoring opportunities, but Klopp’s believes what the forward offers with his all-round contribution to the team is more important:

“He will never come to me because people are saying something is missing and ask: ‘Boss, can I play in my old position again?’” He is doing the job. That makes him so unbelievably valuable for us. I’m really happy with him.”

“Yes, we had a long season last season and he had a World Cup, then he had bits here and there. But it’s not about position. It’s about what you have to do in the right moments.”

“We need to find a system where we can bring our quality on the pitch and against Watford it worked out. It all depends what you want to see, what you expect and what you compare it with.”

The Brazilian international’s last goal in any competition came against Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League last month, and Reds fans will be hoping he can continue his good form in Europe with another strike when the Merseyside club face PSG on Wednesday.

Liverpool will qualify for the last 16 if they win at the Parc des Princes and Red Star fail to beat Napoli in the other match in Group C.
