Klopp Gives A Timeframe On Joel Matip’s Return To Fitness

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says that Joel Matip will be out for at least another two weeks. The centre-back has missed the last nine games due to a knee injury

Speaking ahead of today’s game against Bournemouth, Klopp confirmed that the defender remains on the sidelines and they will assess his fitness over the next fortnight:

“Everything in our life is all under pressure. All the little things have to heal as quickly as possible, but here it is taking the normal amount of time.”

“It was not like after four weeks or so that it was already as we wished, so we have to wait another two weeks I would think and then we will see.”

Matip originally sustained the problem before the game against Leicester in early October. The 28-year-old then played in the 1-1 draw against Manchester United which appears to have aggravated the issue further.

Dejan Lovren has played well in the Cameroon international’s absence, and it seems Matip will not be fit until the Reds return from the Club World Cup in late December.

Matip was omitted from the squad that will fly out to Qatar later this month, and it’s highly unlikely that he’ll feature before the game against Leicester at the King Power Stadium on Boxing Day.
