Klopp laughs off Mourinho’s comments

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has hit back at Jose Mourinho after the Manchester United manager’s comments about the Reds’ title bid this season.

In classic Jose Mourinho style, the Portuguese attempted to rattle Klopp and increase the pressure on his shoulders as the new season nears.

Mourinho claimed that Liverpool need to win the Premier League this season, having spent over £170m on transfers so far this summer, also commenting on his apparent change of transfer policy saying he found it ‘funny’.

However, Klopp has laughed off those comments by his counterpart, joking that one of his biggest goals in life is to make Jose laugh.

“One of my biggest goals in life is to make Jose smile – it doesn’t happen very often,” said the German. “I don’t even think it is a mind game, I think it is normal. I would never talk about Manchester United if no one asked me about it.

“I have no problem with what Jose Mourinho is saying, it is a free world and he can say whatever he wants. If he is happy about our transfers, even better.

“We know it doesn’t mean you win (trophies) automatically.”

When Klopp was asked about whether or not he thought Liverpool had to win the Premier League this season, he responded by said: “I don’t think so. Do I get the sack if not? Depends on the football we play.”

Liverpool are one of the hot favourites for the league next season and will almost certainly give Pep Guardiola’s side a run for their money.

Mourinho’s comments clearly haven’t bothered Klopp in the slightest, if anything they are perhaps a sign that United are worried about the threat Liverpool pose.
