Klopp Namechecks Two French Superstars That Liverpool Would Consider Signing If They Were Available

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has been asked why the Reds do not currently have a French player in their squad. Responding to the question, the German replied he is a big fan of both Kylian Mbappe and Antoine Griezmann but both would be too expensive to buy:

“There is no reason for it. Kylian plays for PSG. Griezmann wanted to go to Barcelona obviously – we know how good that team is. We would like to have a French player, but some of them are too expensive for us.”

Mbappe has been constantly linked with a move to Anfield on social media over the past year, although there doesn’t appear to have been any recent interest from Liverpool in signing the striker.

In Griezmann’s case, there was never any talk of the Reds looking to snap up the France international, especially when Barcelona were looking to sign the forward.

Whether Klopp will make a move for a French player in the future, we shall have to wait and see. Mamadou Sakho was the last one he managed, but a falling out between the pair led to the defender’s departure to Crystal Palace in 2017.
