Klopp Says He Has Learned To Hold His Tongue After ‘Harsh’ Neville Criticism

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says he tends to avoid listening to TV pundits and football commentary in general after previously criticising Gary Neville.

The Sky Sports analyst once recommended that the Reds should go out of the Champions League in order to concentrate on winning the Premier League.

Those comments were met with a strong rebuke from Klopp at the time, but he now tries to avoid such conflicts if possible:

“I did punditry not that often. I respect it’s not easy. Former players are doing (it) well. We cannot listen to it, we have our own problems.”

“I really don’t listen too much, I watch football games a lot of time without commentary, not because it’s bad but because I want to be concentrated on the game.”

“I respect it a lot, I have no problem with it. When someone asks me about it, I’m in danger of giving a harsh answer, like I was with Mr Neville in the past. I protect myself by not listening too much.”

Considering how well Liverpool have played this season, Klopp wouldn’t have heard much criticism of his team from pundits even if he did decide to listen to them.

The German’s success on the pitch means he really doesn’t need to be taking any advice from others anyway. When the football season resumes, the Reds will only need to secure six points to win their first league title in 30 years.

Coming off the back of Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup titles, he has already established himself in Anfield folklore.
