Liverpool are interested in signing AZ Alkmaar captain Teun Koopmeiners, according to AS. The Spanish newspaper claims that “Klopp sees him as the ideal candidate” to replace Georginio Wijnaldum.
It confirms a report from Italy earlier this week that the Reds are keeping tabs on the player, but AS do provide some additional information, stating that no less than four other teams are keen on the Dutchman.
Roma, Inter Milan, Napoli and Sevilla are said to be among the clubs who could make their move for Koopmeiners when the transfer window opens in the summer.
In terms of his price tag, it is believed that AZ may only ask for around €20m (£17.3m) but that may go up if competition for the player increases even further.
Koopmeiners has also been scouted by both Arsenal and Manchester United over the last two years so Liverpool may also have to contend with English clubs for the 23-year-old’s signature.
