Klopp Shuts Down Talk Of Liverpool Signing German International Playmaker

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has said he won’t talk about the possibility of signing Borussia Dortmund midfielder Mario Gotze.

Speaking at a pre-match press conference ahead of the Carabao Cup third round tie against Chelsea tomorrow, he was quoted as saying:

“There’s absolutely nothing I would want to say about it in a press conference in England ahead of a game against Chelsea. If I have something to say to Mario, I will call him. I don’t talk about him because there’s nothing to say. Good question though.”

Gotze was given his senior debut by Klopp in 2009. He then departed for Bayern Munich when the Reds boss was still the manager at Dortmund.

In 2016, the World Cup winner returned to Signal Iduna Park, but he has been struggling with both fitness and form recently. New manager Lucien Favre left him out of the matchday squad entirely for the 1-1 draw against Hoffenheim on Saturday.

Former teammate Kevin Grosskreutz then suggested that a move to Liverpool could be a good solution. However, it seems, for the time being at least, that the player will be remaining with Dortmund.

During his spell under Klopp at the German club, Gotze made 116 appearances in all competitions, scoring 31 goals and contributing 44 assists.
