Klopp slams Salah after lacklustre Chelsea display

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has slammed Mohamed Salah after his performance against former club Chelsea yesterday afternoon.

The Egyptian, who has been in the club’s stand-out player this term, put in perhaps his worst display yet in a Red shirt as Liverpool lost to Chelsea 1-0 at Stamford Bridge.

But one incident in-particular had Klopp raging at his star-man.

Salah was booked mid-way through the first half for diving, going down without contact in the area near Gary Cahill in a feeble attempt to win a penalty for his side.

Speaking after the game, Klopp said: “Yes I think it was a dive, was it? Or he waited for the contact, I am not sure, so that is not what I want to see, that is not what he wants to do. But obviously it happened.

“With all the other situations, he couldn’t get any foul any more. That is not right as well. It was always like this and you have to deal with that.”

Salah was given a rough ride throughout the afternoon by the Chelsea defenders, who more often than not double-marked the 25-year-old forward out of the game.

While mostly fair, Klopp however singled out one man in particular who he believes gave Salah unfair treatment on the afternoon.

“He has played twice in a row against former team-mates, and it was the same today as it was against Roma,” the Liverpool manager said. “Before the game they are very friendly, all ‘Hello Mo, how are you?’, and hugs here and there. But then during the game [smacks his hand on the desk]. The same with Rüdiger today.

“He has to be much better, he can do much better and he will score again, there is no doubt about that. There was no space for anything out there. He can play with no space actually, but not today. That is it, all good.”
