Klopp Suggests 19 Year Old Will Have “Guaranteed” Role Against Barcelona

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed that striker Rhian Brewster could well make his debut against Barcelona this evening.

The 19-year-old travelled to Spain for the first leg but was not involved in the matchday squad. However, with the injuries to Roberto Firmino and Mo Salah, it appears the youngster will get a place on the bench.

Brewster has yet to play a senior game for the club but when asked if he could feature at Anfield tonight, Klopp replied:

“He’s ready. There is a big chance. It’s nearly sure. It’s guaranteed. The situations are always like this. In an ideal world, in a season you always have much more players than you can involve in a squad. When you’re on the bench, you are an option to play.”

Whether that will be a cameo at the end of the game or a more significant role, we shall have to wait and see.

Brewster has been out for 18 months after suffering both ankle and knee injuries during a match for the Under 23s, but Klopp has confirmed the teenager has been training at full intensity for the best part of a month.

The U17 World Cup Golden Boot winner certainly has the talent to make an impact, and it will be interesting to find out if he’ll get his chance tonight.
