‘Klopp to thank for Salah’s brilliant form’ says Roma legend

AS Roma legend Francesco Totti believes Jurgen Klopp is partly to thank for Mohamed Salah’s brilliant debut season at Liverpool.

Totti played alongside Salah last season at Roma before the Egyptian completed a £34 million move to Anfield in the summer.

And in his freshman campaign with the Reds, Salah has established himself as a bonafide world beater.

The 25-year-old has hit 41 goals in all competitions this season, and currently has 31 in the Premier League – making him the division’s top scorer and on course to break the all time scoring record with three games remaining.

He also scooped the PFA Player of the Year award earlier in the week after being voted as the league’s most outstanding player by his peers.

Roma meet Liverpool at Anfield in their Champions League semi-final first leg tonight, and ahead of the clash, Totti has praised his former team-mate and believes he owes a lot to manager Jurgen Klopp for helping him unlock his full potential.

The Roma icon told Liverpool’s official website: “This season I’ve seen a number of games of Liverpool, especially because Mo Salah is now playing there, I’ve been following it consistently.

“Especially after the draw, over the past few days I’ve been watching their Champions League games and I really think it’s going to be a tough game for both teams.

“To some extent, it surprises me that [Salah] has been doing so well in his first season at Liverpool.

“But, on the other hand, considering the quality of the squad, the coach they have – Klopp, to me, is one of the best coaches in the world – it didn’t surprise me.

“They put him in the condition to express himself at his best.”
