Klopp Warns It Could Be “Half A Year” Before Fans See £40m Signing In Action

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has warned that Fabinho’s adaptation to the Reds’ style of play could take six months.

The Brazilian international has featured just once since his £40m move from Monaco in the summer. He came on in injury time during the Reds’ 3-2 win over Paris Saint-Germain last week.

Speaking about Fabinho’s absence from the first team, Klopp was quoted as saying:

“There’s no time to say ‘I give you that, or that’, but it will happen. Because the game is so quick and intense, it needs to get natural. It’s not about changing these players, we want their football personality. They are here because of what they did.”

“Three or five weeks sound like a long time in football, but to improve something you can give half a year, to really make the next step. That’s it.”

The 24-year-old generally plays as a holding midfielder, and with just one spot in the team up for grabs, he is finding it a challenge to even get a place on the bench at the moment.

Georginio Wijnaldum has excelled playing in the role so far this season, while captain Jordan Henderson has started the last two matches in the position.

Fabinho will be hoping he can take a similar path to Andy Robertson whose own Anfield career only began to take shape after a number of months on the fringes of the first team. He only became an established starter from December onwards last year and is now an integral player for Klopp.
