Lallana And Milner To Start: Liverpool’s Predicted XI To Face Manchester City

Liverpool won’t be able to select their first-choice front three in the Community Shield this afternoon, with Sadio Mane only returning to training on Monday. However, manager Jurgen Klopp does have an almost fully fit squad to choose from.

Although a trophy is up for grabs against Manchester City at Wembley, the Reds may look to experiment, especially as the likes of Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino are unlikely to be able to play for 90 minutes due to fitness issues.

Klopp won’t be changing much in the backline, though, with Joel Matip expected to partner Virgil van Dijk in the centre of defence, ahead of Joe Gomez and Dejan Lovren.

In midfield, Liverpool have been utilising Adam Lallana in an unfamiliar deep-lying playmaker role during pre-season and they may try to road test it against City. James Milner is also likely to be given the nod after a summer without international football.

Upfront, Divock Origi will probably start on the left flank in the absence of Mane, while Rhian Brewster and Harry Wilson are likely to see some action during the match.

Liverpool’s Predicted XI

Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Matip, van Dijk, Robertson, Henderson, Lallana, Milner, Salah, Firmino, Origi

Predicted Score 1-1 (Liverpool to win on penalties)
