Latest Liverpool Injury News: Key Updates On Matip, Keita And Diogo Jota

Liverpool centre-back Joel Matip remains a major doubt ahead of Sunday’s top of the table clash against Manchester United.

The 29-year-old picked up an adductor injury in the 1-1 draw against West Brom last month but it was hoped he’d be fit for this weekend’s match. However, the defender has yet to take part in a full training session and is currently following a special training regimen.

Manager Jurgen Klopp usually likes to have players involved in two full sessions before being eligible for team selection and it looks touch and go as to whether Matip will be ready for the United clash.

Naby Keita’s fitness is also a question mark for the weekend. Klopp told reporters before the Villa game that the Guinean international would return “soon” but he didn’t confirm an exact return date. It’s likely we’ll only see him on the bench if he is passed fit.

In terms of other injuries, Diogo Jota (knee) is unlikely to feature before the start of February, with fullback Kostas Tsimikas also in the same boat. Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk are both long-term injury absentees.
