Latest Liverpool Injury News: Star Confirms He Is Out For The Rest Of The Season

Anfield Stadium

Liverpool defender Joel Matip has confirmed he will miss the rest of the campaign after picking up a toe injury.

The 28-year-old started the 0-0 draw against Everton but had to be substituted on 73 minutes following a collision with Toffees forward Richarlison. He says he will hopefully be back for the start of next season:

“This season I will be not back on the pitch but for next season, I hope I’m going to be quite early a direct help for the team.”

The Reds currently have one other player unavailable with James Milner suffering with a hamstring problem, which he also picked up during the Merseyside derby.

Xherdan Shaqiri has, though, been pictured back on the training pitch this week. The Swiss international has not featured since the Premier League returned earlier this month due to a calf injury.

He has had a difficult season with fitness issues, having made just two Premier League starts. The last time he made an appearance in any game for the first team came all the way back in January, in the 1-0 win against Tottenham.
