Latest Liverpool Injury News: Updates On Matip, Keita And Thiago

Anfield Stadium

Liverpool centre-back Joel Matip has been ruled out of tomorrow’s game against Newcastle with an adductor injury, and reports indicate that he is likely to be missing for a number of weeks.

The 29-year-old picked up the issue in the 1-1 draw against West Brom on Sunday and had to be replaced by Rhys Williams in the second half.

Naby Keita did not make the squad at the weekend due to a muscular problem and the Guinean international will also be unavailable for the trip to St James’ Park. It is not known whether he’ll be back in contention for the clash against Southampton on Monday night.

Thiago Alcantara is expected to be in the matchday squad for the Newcastle game after coming through a number of training sessions. It’s unlikely that the Spaniard will start, though, with his last game coming against Everton back in October.

Diogo Jota, Kostas Tsimikas, Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk (all knee) remain sidelined with long term injuries.
