Le Tissier Compares Liverpool Star To “A Man Playing In Boy’s Football”

TV pundit Matt Le Tissier is full of praise for Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk following his excellent displays since signing from Southampton last January.

The Saints legend says he isn’t surprised that the Netherlands captain has settled in so well at Anfield after watching him regularly play at St Mary’s.

Speaking about Van Dijk’s playing style, Le Tissier believes the Dutchman makes the game look so easy at times:

“I said it when he was at Southampton. He’s one of the few players I’ve watched in the Premier League who looks like a man playing in boy’s football.”

“You never saw him hurried, he’s always in the right position, you barely saw him sprint in a football match, which I have a lot of respect for. He’s made such a difference to their backline. I can’t see too many centre-backs better than him in world football.”

The Reds have the best defensive record in the Premier League this season, having conceded just seven times in 17 games. It’s a massive turnaround from this time last campaign prior to the £75m signing’s arrival when the Merseyside club had let in far more goals.

The addition of van Dijk, as well as Alisson, have played an important role in ensuring that Liverpool are top of the league heading into the festive period. Jurgen Klopp’s men will play Wolves on Friday evening before facing Newcastle on Boxing Day.
