‘Let’s finish a great season’ – Van Dijk craving European triumph

Virgil Van Dijk has urged Liverpool to cap off what’s been a ‘great season’ by bringing home the Champions League.

Jurgen Klopp’s men face Real Madrid in the Champions League final in Kiev at the end of the month.

The Reds eliminated the likes of Porto, Manchester City and AS Roma en route to the final, scoring an astonishing 46 goals – the most ever by an English team in the competition.

Liverpool also booked their place in next season’s competition by securing a top four Premier League finish at the weekend, courtesy of a 4-0 win over Brighton and Hove Albion.

And Van Dijk, who joined Liverpool in January from Southampton, wants to cap off a successful campaign with silverware.

“It has been a great season for Liverpool and hopefully we can finish it off in Kiev,” he told Liverpoolfc.com.

“We’re going to prepare very well. It’s going to be a tough game – we know they have so much quality. But we don’t need to forget that we have so much quality as well.

“We need to be going to Kiev with a lot of confidence. We’re not there for no reason. We deserve to be there, so we need to show that, be brave and do our thing. Then we’ll see what’s going to happen.”
