Lineker Predicts Who Will Come Out On Top Between Liverpool And Bayern Munich

TV presenter Gary Lineker is backing Liverpool as slight favourites heading into the Champions League clash against Bayern Munich this evening.

The former Tottenham and England striker believes the Bundesliga side are not the force they once were and he is backing the Reds to edge past their German opponents:

“Bayern have not had a great season. They are going through a transitional phase but still have lots of great players with bags of experience. It’s Bayern Munich, one of the biggest clubs in European football so it will still be a tough nut to crack.”

“Liverpool are a really good side. They might have gone off the boil these past couple of weeks but that can change quickly. I think they would have preferred to have the second leg at home but as they showed last season against a couple of teams, Roma and Manchester City for example, they just blasted early on.”

“That’s what they will look to do against Munich. I make Liverpool slight favourites and would fancy them to go through.”

Dejan Lovren is likely to face a late fitness test ahead of tonight’s game at Anfield. If the Croatian doesn’t make it, manager Jurgen Klopp may opt to select Fabinho alongside Joel Matip.

With Virgil van Dijk suspended, this evening’s match could prove to be a very open encounter. Bayern just shaded a 3-2 win against relegation-threatened Augsburg on Friday night, exposing their own defensive vulnerabilities.

With that being the case, Liverpool may be hesitant about conceding an away goal, but the Merseyside club’s strength in attack should make them confident of scoring in both legs of the round of 16 tie to progress.
