Liverpool and Arsenal are keen on signing Lille forward Jonathan David, according to reports in the French media.

Both clubs have been tracking the Canadian international for a long time, having scouted him before he made the switch to France in August last year.

However, David’s performances this campaign would have undoubtedly come to the attention of the two Premier League sides.

After taking a year to settle at his new club, the 21-year-old has begun to thrive in Lille, having scored 11 goals in 18 league appearances, making him Ligue One’s top scorer.

Considering David only scored 13 in the whole of last season, his progress has been impressive, leading to the likes of the Reds and the Gunners stepping up their interest in the Canadian.

Lille won’t let the striker leave on the cheap, though, with it being reported that the French club will demand approximately €50m (£42m) for his services.
