Liverpool and Tottenham have joined a host of high profile Bundesliga teams in pursuing Schalke striker Matthew Hoppe, according to Transfermarkt.de.

The 20-year-old is expected to be sold for between €7m (£6m) and €10m (£8.6m) in the summer with Schalke poised to be relegated from the German top flight.

Hoppe is American, he came through Barcelona’s academy campus in Casa Grande where he was spotted by Schalke’s scouts. He spent eighteen months with the Bundesliga side’s youth team before making his senior debut against Borussia Monchengladbach back in November.

On only his third league start back in January, he made the headlines by scoring a hat-trick against Hoffenheim in a 4-0 win, which remains Schalke’s only victory in the Bundesliga this season.

Hoppe went on to hit the back of the net in subsequent matches against Eintracht Frankfurt and Cologne, but he has not scored since that purple patch. His performances have, though, caught the attention of Liverpool and other clubs, and it remains to be seen who he will decide to join in the summer.
