Liverpool And United Enter Battle For Portuguese Starlet With 87.4M Release Clause

Liverpool and Manchester United are among a host of teams who are tracking Benfica defender Antonio Silva, according to reports in Portugal.

The 18-year-old has broken into the first team this season and has made twelve starts in all competitions for Benfica so far, including two impressive games against PSG.

Silva does have a €100m (£87.4m) release clause and it is believed that it would take a big sum to secure the teenager’s services, with the player regarded as an outstanding young talent.

Liverpool do have five senior centre-backs, including Nat Phillips, but, with both Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip now in their thirties. there could be room for some flesh blood at the back.

It is doubtful, however, that the defence will be deemed the main priority to strengthen in the transfer market, considering the difficulties that Jurgen Klopp’s side have been having in midfield, but Silva is definitely a player fans should be watching closely.
