Liverpool And United See Off Arsenal As Battle For £54m Rated French U21 Star Heats Up

Liverpool, Manchester United and AC Milan are the only three teams left in the race for RB Leipzig centre-back Dayot Upamecano after Arsenal dropped out of the running, according to reports in Germany.

The France Under 21 international has apparently decided to move clubs in the summer, and with just a year remaining on his current deal, Leipzig are likely to give in to his demands.

Arsenal have been hot on Upamecano’s trail for over a year, but it is believed that the 21-year-old’s asking price has cooled their interest in the defender.

The Frenchman reportedly has a €60m (£54m) release clause which will need to be matched by any club this summer.

Liverpool were linked with Upamecano, along with Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni and Atletico Madrid’s Jose Gimenez, as potential replacements for Dejan Lovren earlier this week.

Whether the Reds would sanction such a high bid, considering they already have an established centre-back pairing of Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez, it remains to be seen.
