Liverpool Backed To Make ‘Strong Offer’ As They Look To Beat Chelsea And Spurs For £83M Rated Salah Successor

Liverpool are lining up a “strong offer” for Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens, according to Bild.

The German tabloid claims that the Reds see the England Under 21 international as a “successor” to Mo Salah, who could leave Anfield at the end of the season.

Gittens is highly rated by Dortmund and the Bundesliga side are not willing to let him leave Signal Iduna Park without a fight.

Bild report that a fee in the region of €100m (£83m) may be required to secure the 20-year-old’s services at the end of the season.

What do fans need to know about Gittens?

The forward started out life at Reading’s famed academy before he moved to Manchester City in the summer of 2018.

Gittens spent just over two years with the Cityzens, playing for the Under 18s, before Dortmund picked him up on a free transfer.

It’s taken the youngster a while to make a name for himself in Germany (he is now in his fourth season), but he has been given plenty of opportunities to impress since the appointment of new head coach Nuri Sahin in the summer.

Gittens has made 10 appearances in all competitions so far this campaign, scoring 4 goals and providing 3 assists.

Liverpool will have competition for the winger

Bild have confirmed that both Chelsea and Tottenham have also been scouting Gittens as they weigh up their own bids.

Arne Slot’s side appear to be leading the race for the player at the moment, though. Recruiting a replacement for Salah could soon become a top priority.

The Egyptian international’s contract expires at the end of June and there is no indication that he will extend his stay. If he does leave, the Reds’ scouting department need to have a player lined up and ready to come in immediately.
