Liverpool Close To Sealing Deal For Dutch Starlet Who They Believe Could Be The Next Gomez

Liverpool are closing in on the signing PEC Zwolle defender Sepp van den Berg, according to Goal.com.

Chief Scout Barry Hunter, along with Head of Recruitment Dave Fallows, have been determined to secure the 17-year-old ahead of a number of top European clubs.

Hunter was a key player in the Reds signing Joe Gomez from Charlton in 2015, and he reportedly believes van den Berg has the potential to play at the same level as the England international.

The teenager has already made his debut in senior football, having started six matches for Zwolle at the back end of the 2017/18 season.

Van den Berg played a more prominent first-team role last campaign, making 16 appearances in all competitions. He mostly played at centre-half but he has also been employed at right-back.

The Netherlands Under 19 international has just one year left on his contract at Zwolle, and the Eredivisie side are keen to cash in to prevent the player from leaving for nothing when his current deal runs out next year.
