Liverpool have approached Inter Milan midfielder Marcelo Brozovic’s agent to enquire about the Croatian’s availability, according to reports in the Italian media.
The 27-year-old is currently locked in negotiations over a new contract with the Nerazzurri, with the player currently having a €60m (£52m) buyout clause which the Reds could look to exploit.
However, Inter are said to be working hard to remove the release clause with the Serie A side believed to be confident of tying down Brozovic for the long term.
The Croatian international’s current deal expires in 2022 so while he may not be available for a knockdown price this summer, he could still turn down an extension and look to leave the San Siro.
Whether Liverpool would actually be interested if Brozovic was seeking an exit, though, it is up for debate. The club have been linked with Borussia Monchengladbach’s Denis Zakaria in recent days so it can’t be ruled that the Merseyside club are eyeing a move for another holding midfielder.
