Liverpool Deadline Day Recap: What Happened To Deals For Shaqiri, Grujic And Wilson?

Liverpool were expected to offload a number of players before the transfer window closed but deals never materialised for Xherdan Shaqiri, Marko Grujic and Harry Wilson.

In Shaqiri’s case, there was enough interest from the likes of Lazio and Roma for him to be pulled out of the Carabao Cup against Arsenal last week, but no satisfactory offers arrived for the Swiss international, and he will now stay as a squad player until January.

Marko Grujic had a lot of interest from clubs in the Bundesliga but despite a loan switch to Werder Bremen being on the cards, the move collapsed due to a disagreement over the finances of the deal. It remains to be seen whether the Reds will offload the player to a Championship team in order for him to get more match time.

Harry Wilson was the subject of a bid from Burnley before the Clarets withdrew from the race for the Welshman. Celtic were also said to be considering a loan move for the player but Liverpool were said to be only keen on offloading him on a permanent basis. It appears his £20m price tag put off potential suitors.
