Liverpool eyeing summer move for Real Madrid defender

Liverpool are preparing a summer swoop for Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal, according to reports from Spain.

Carvajal has established himself as one of Los Blancos key players over the last few seasons after breaking into the first-team back in 2013 following his return from Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen.

The Spain international was sold to the Bundesliga outfit the season previous, however Madrid exercised the buy-back clause in his contract after being impressed with his performances during his time in Germany.

Since returning to the Bernaneu, Carvajal has made almost 200 appearances for Madrid, winning La Liga, the Copa Del Rey and three Champion’s League trophies.

Jurgen Klopp has now reportedly eyed the highly-rated defender as one of his top transfer targets this summer as he looks to strengthen in the right-back area at Anfield.

A long-term injury to first choice full-back Nathaniel Clyne means Klopp has relied heavily upon youngsters Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez to fill the void left by the Englishman this season.

And despite being impressed by the duo’s displays, the German manager is keen to add experience in the position to help his side challenge for the Premier League title next season.

Liverpool currently sit third in the table, two points behind second place Manchester United and 18 behind league leaders Manchester City.
