Liverpool Eyeing Summer Swoop For German International Defender

Liverpool are interested in Borussia Monchengladbach defender Matthias Ginter, according to Calciomercato.com.

The Italian website believes the German international is being eyed as a possible replacement for Joel Matip.

Ginter, who has also been linked with moves to Arsenal and Tottenham in recent weeks, was managed by Jurgen Klopp during his final season in charge at Borussia Dortmund.

However, the centre-back never really settled after his €10m switch from Freiburg and moved to Gladbach in the summer of 2017.

Ginter can also play at right-back, having performed well there for Dortmund in the 2015/16 season; the year after Klopp’s departure.

Since then, though, the 25-year-old has played mostly as a centre-half at club level, with his 23 appearances for Germany being split between the two positions.

For Gladbach this campaign, Ginter has helped the Bundesliga side keep the second best defensive record in the league. His team have conceded just 25 goals in 28 games.
