REPORT: Liverpool Starlet Set To Move On Loan To Bundesliga Giants

Liverpool are set to send Portuguese starlet Fabio Carvalho out on loan to Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig for the 2023/24 season, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano on Twitter.

Carvalho will remain on loan at Leipzig for the entire duration of the upcoming season – but there will be no option in his contract that will allow Leipzig to sign the player on a permanent deal when it expires in June 2024.

In Romano’s tweet, he wrote: “Fabio Carvalho, set to travel to Germany in order to complete loan move to RB Leipzig as expected. Here we go now confirmed. Full agreement reached last week as Carvalho joins Leipzig on loan deal until June 2024 — there’s NO buy option clause into the contract.”

Will Liverpool miss Fabio Carvalho?

Last season, despite arriving at the club amid plenty of hype, Carvalho made just 19 appearances for Liverpool last season, scoring three goals in total. Additionally, he also failed to register an assist.

For a 20-year-old, these are not terrible numbers by any means. Despite this, after they failed to qualify for the Champions League, the Reds need first-team quality players in their squad next season – they cannot be relying on youngsters to dig them out of trouble.

Is it a good idea to send Fabio Carvalho out on loan?

In this instance, it is probably for the best that Carvalho goes out on loan for the duration of the 2023/24 season. While obviously talented, he may not be physically or mentally ready for the hustle and bustle of the Premier League at this stage in his young career.

The Bundesliga and the Premier League are, stylistically, very similar. They both have a high emphasis on intense pressing and winning the ball in advantageous areas – therefore, it is a perfect league for Carvalho to continue his development.

Of course, there is always the risk that a player may wish to stay at the club he is loaned out to on a permanent basis. However, with the lack of a buy option clause in Carvalho’s loan contract at Leipzig, this should not be too much of a worry for Jurgen Klopp’s men.
