Liverpool Fail In Attempt To Sign Van Den Berg’s Brother

Liverpool have missed out on signing PEC Zwolle centre-back Rav van den Berg, according to De Stentor. The Dutch publication claims that the Reds, AC Milan, PSV Eindhoven and Ajax were all keen on snapping up the 15-year-old but he has opted to remain with his current team.

The Merseyside were hoping to reunite the defender with his brother, Sepp, who moved to England from Zwolle for an initial £1.7m last summer, but Rav has been convinced to stay in the Netherlands.

De Stentor report that the promise of guaranteed first-team football persuaded van den Berg to stay and sign a new contract with the Eredivisie outfit.

Liverpool would not have had to pay a transfer fee for the Netherlands Under 16 international as he was not on a professional deal at Zwolle. However, the Reds will have to be content with having just one of the brothers in the academy.
