Liverpool fans delighted as Daniel Sturridge re-discovers ‘2013 form’

Liverpool fans can’t quite believe Daniel Sturridge’s form in pre-season.

The striker has been the Reds’ star player as Jurgen Klopp’s men warm up for the new season.

The 28-year-old bagged a brace as Liverpool saw off Chester 7-0 earlier in the month, and was again on target in the 2-0 victory over Blackburn last week.

Sturridge also impressed in the Red’s first fixture of their tour of America versus Borussia Dortmund, however was unable to prevent his side from a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Jurgen Klopp’s former side.

Sturridge was widely expetced to leave Anfield this summer after a difficult couple of seasons on merseyside, which included a failed loan spell with West Bromwich Albion at the end of last term.

The Englishman has struggled with injuries and without former strike partner Luis Suarez, who left for Barcelona in 2014.

Prior to the Uruguayan’s La Liga switch, Sturridge and Suarez (known affectionately as SAS at the time) formed a formidable partnership – scoring 96 goals between them in just two seasons at Anfield.

Yet while Suarez has not (yet) come back to his former side, the Daniel Sturridge of 2013 appears to have made a surprise, and welcomed, reappearance.

Jurgen Klopp has been thrilled with Sturridge’s performances so far in pre-season saying: “He is in very good shape, that’s true. It was a very intense pre-season so far and he was part of pretty much all the sessions. He looks really good. Who doubts Daniel Sturridge when he is fit?

“He is an outstanding player, hopefully he can stay fit and then the future is bright.”

Us too, Jurgen, us too …
