The PFA Team of the Year was released earlier today.
As expected Manchester City players dominated, with five of Pep Guardiola’s men making the cut – those being Sergio Aguero, Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva, Kyle Walker and Nicholas Otamendi.
Tottenham, who currently sit in fourth in the Premier League, had three of their players nominated.
Midfield dynamo Christian Eriksen occupied the final midfield spot, Jan Vertonghen partners Otamendi in central defence while 37-goal Harry Kane leads the attack.
The three remaining spots went to the league’s top scorer and Liverpool star Mohamed Salah, Chelsea’s Marcos Alonso and Manchester United shot-stopper David De Gea – who made the team for the fourth consecutive season.
While few will be surprised with the PFA’s choices, there are a few players who may feel hard done by not to make the cut.
Manchester City star Leroy Sane has been outstanding for the Cityzens this season, scoring 13 goals and managing 14 goals in all competitions, as has his team-mate Raheem Sterling, who’s managed a brilliant total of 22 and 9.
Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta was widely expected to be named in the heart of the defence, but misses out, most likely due to his side’s underwhelming season rather than his own displays.
And Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino too will have felt he was at least in with a shout, after leading the Red’s line superbly all season in what’s been a terrific campaign for Jurgen Klopp’s men.
But one man who can feel truly un-just he didn’t cut the mustard is Firmino’s team-mate and Scotland international Andrew Robertson.
Signed last summer for £8 million from Hull City, Robertson has proven to be the bargain of the season, establishing himself as Liverpool’s first choice left-back and solving what has been a long-term problem position for the Reds.
Dynamic in both defence and attack, the Scot’s performances have drawn plenty of praise this season.
“What a signing he’s been,” said Liverpool legend Jamie Redknapp following his performance against Crystal Palace earlier in the season, while another Anfield hero, Steven Gerrard, described the young defender as “excellent” and someone who “gives his all every game.”
The Liverpool fans are baffled as to why their much loved Glaswegian was left-out …
Andrew Robertson and Ashley Young were much more worthy of the left-back spot on the TOTY. Not sure how Alonso’s made it there.

If only Andrew Robertson wasn't second fiddle to Moreno all the way until his injury then he would be certain in TOTY, Took until December to get his 3rd PL start. Honestly believe Alonso got selected because of his freekick goals.

I really can’t understand how Marcos Alonso could be in the TOTY, Robertson and Delph has been so much better
